Back in the day 900rpm was sweet & consistent, but that doesn't work anymore with California fuel in hot weather.Ĭlick to expand. It has been posted here and other Britbike forums innumerable times (often by it's not just any old hole, being a jet, it's a precisely-sized hole. Down in cool valleys was about 1100-1150rpm. The only cure is raising idle RPM via the stops for slide. When carb is hot from sitting at stop lights it may want to stall. Once you get it perfect I find it stays that way a long time. Soon you'll start understanding what the guide means. Do not guess! Now road test & study guide. Mark throttle so you know exactly how much opened. If you can get all that to adjust your idle jets are ok, even if possibly oversized. It seems to make idle better on hot day.įinally go back & trim the cable adjustment yet again. I often then turn screw in 1/16 turn or so to give a little more fuel. Go back/forth left to right until it's best as can be. If RPM is now too fast lower the slides with the stop screws. Backing screw out you get to a sweet spot. Turning screw in farther will also lower RPM to degree & motor doesn't run as well. Then if you screw out motor should lower RPM & motor doesn't run as good, as mixture is leaned. Do let a cable get tight & not allow slide to fall onto screw. You go back and forth between the 2 until it's best RPM & mixture. Setting mixture is a combination of idle rpm & actual mixture screw. Once you get the idle & mixture good, then go back & trim cable adjustment so slides lift evenly, meaning the same amount. You need enough slack in cables to allow slides to come all the way down to RPM adjustment screws. Keep in mind the throttle cable adjustment. After fully warm you can then go for fine tuning of RPM & mixture at idle. That will get you idling better while you are putting on miles. That will get bike started, then set idle to 1000 or so. You do the base adjustment about 1.5 turns out. Only fuel passes through jet so drilled jet makes too rich. I know you just set timing, so that's good.ĭrilled out jet cannot make mixture too lean. Timing needs to be correct before carb adjustments are made. I think you have the original fabric gauze type. No air filters or restrictive air filters change carb adjustments. Looking into carb at full throttle you should not see any choke sticking down.ĭo carb adjustments with air filters on. Make sure the choke cables are adjusted so choke slides are pulled all the way up. Just the opposite from what many car carburetors we adjusted in the old days. Turning outwards adds air so mixture gets leaner. I didn't feel your bike was lean when I rode it. I checked the wire I use to clean my jet.
